This is here for people Googling in the future, I hope someone finds it useful.

Want to print from your laptop while connected to Eduroam on the University of Sussex Campus? Follow these steps. This is how to connect using Ubuntu, Windows users go here.

  1. Go to http://font.rn.informatics.scitech.susx.ac.uk/printers/ and find your printer, the names are the same as when printing from a university controlled machine. You will need to enter your Sussex username and password to access this page.
  2. Take the name of the printer and make a url by appending ".font.rn.informatics.scitech.susx.ac.uk" to it and adding a "http://" on the front". For example "http://my-printer-name.font.rn.informatics.scitech.susx.ac.uk".
  3. Open up the Gnome printer setup dialog (System menu, Administration, Printers) and click add.
  4. Click on "Other" and type the printer URL you made into the "Enter device URI" box.
  5. Click continue and select the model of printer (written on front). You will be given a choice of printers but choose the one labeled "CUPS" (the default recomended choice doesn't work, at least for me)
  6. Finish up the installation.
  7. Enjoy
